SL vs WI, U-19 World Cup, Live Updates
We are back with the run chase to begin. The Umpires can be seen making their way out to the middle and Sri Lanka Under-19's fielders spread out to their respective field positions after having the final talk in the huddle. Steve Wedderburn and the skipper Stephan Pascal will open the batting for West Indies Under-19. Dinura Kalupahana has the new ball and will bowl the first ball of the run-chase. Let's play...
...THE RUN CHASE..
Right then, West Indies Under-19 have a daunting task up their sleeves to chase a competitive total of 231. They do have some firepower up their batting order, but they will need to be alert against the Sri Lanka Under-19's spin web. An exciting run-chase is up on the cards. Stay tuned as we bring you the second innings after the break.
Raneico Smith is up for a quick chat for his excellent bowling figures. He says that he just focused on hitting the good areas. Mentions he was aiming for the fuller length early on in his spell. Informs that he is delighted to have this experience, as he is meeting new people and learning a lot. States that he really backs his team, they have good batters and can come over on top here.
For the Windies, Nathan Edward took a couple of scalps inside the Powerplay and rode on the top. Raneico Smith was brilliant with his bowling figures and with an excellent 4-fer. The surface seemed to be a bit more favorable to the bowling side as we saw the ball turning sharply and unevenly bouncing. Just when the partnership was flourishing for the Lankans for the 4th wicket, Tarrique Edward provided another breakthrough for them and fortunes favored Nathan Sealy as he ran out Waduge off his fingertips. But, the bowlers did offer too many extras in their bowling. Nathan Sealy was brought back into the attack and he broke a 59-run stand for the 7th wicket. The Windies sort of leaked some quick runs in the last ten overs and Sri Lanka crept back into the game in the latter half.
Phew, what an interesting contest we have had after a topsy-turvy first innings. But Sri Lanka Under-19 would be the happier side to head to the dugout after posting 231 on the board. Sri Lanka Under-19 lost their top order within the Powerplay. Pulindu Perera looked settled and also got off to a good start but couldn't capitalize on it and departed on 24. Sineth, the skipper too didn't had a long stay in the middle and they were in a spot of bother being 3 down on just 43. But Supun Waduge and Dinura stitched up a resilient partnership of 39 runs before Waduge got out in a bit of an unlucky way. The two rotated the strike well and kept the scoreboard ticking. Sharujan Shanmuganathan too, maintained a good little stand with Dinura but he too, perished after a start. Ravishan De Silva also had a very brief stay and the Lankans were suddenly 6 down on a paltry 134. Dinura watched his team collapse yet another time being stranded on the other end and stuck his third fifty of the competition. Malsha Tharupathi equally helped them to post a fighting total with his extremely valuable hand at the backend. His valuable 42 brought back life to the Lankan innings and weighed back the game in their favor.
OUT! RUN OUT! The batters are unable to sneak a single on the final delivery and they end with 231 runs on the scoreboard. It is a full-length ball, outside off, angling in. Ruvishan Perera looks to flick it away but gets an inside edge on his pads. The ball rolls and dies right in front of the bowler.
