Side-strain downs James Anderson

England's campaign against Sri Lanka in the Test series at home received a serious blow as fast-bowler James Anderson was diagnosed with a side strain and was advised not to bowl in the remainder of the first Test, here on Saturday.

According to reports, the pacer is suffering from a grade one strain which requires two to three weeks of rest. Anderson sustained the problem on day two of the Test which began Thursday and had to examined off the field.

His absence had a direct impact on England's bowling arsenal as Sri Lanka managed to score fluently in their first innings and the problem for the hosts is only going to continue with the second Test beginning from June 3 at the Lords. Though he can bat, it is unlikely that Anderson will be available for the match.
