Shikhar Dhawan, who was preferred to Gautam Gambhir as India's opener for the second Test at the Eden Gardens, is facing a barrage of criticism for his flop show at Eden Gardens on Friday. (LIVE SCORECARD | LIVE BLOG)
Not only Shikhar Dhawan, skipper Virat Kohli is also being slammed for his "surgical strike" on Gambhir and picking Dhawan, whose recent form in Test cricket has not been particularly impressive.
Shikhar Dhawan was bowled for 1 by Matt Henry in the second over after India opted to bat after winning the toss on a newly-laid Eden Gardens wicket. Dhawan, chopped one onto his stumps, thus not being able to vindicate Kohli's trust in him.
Gambhir selected in the team but not in the playing eleven for out of form Shikhar Dhawan?

Kohli seriously did a surgical strike on Gambhir!
Selecting Shikhar Dhawan in place of Gautam Gambhir is like selecting Bangla Desh for honeyMoon in place of Switzerland

What does Shikhar Dhawan hv in common with Michael Jackson? They both wear gloves for no apparent reason. Seen on Twitter. LoL. :)

At a time when there is a lot of competition for the opener's slot, Dhawan's only noteworthy Test score of 84 came in the first Test at Antigua in July against the West Indies. Since then, his Test scores have been 27, 26 and 1. In both innings of the Duleep Trophy final, Dhawan scored 29 and 29.
Kolkata probably wanted to see Gautam Gambhir in action.
The Kolkata Knight Riders captain made a comeback to the Test squad after August 2014 on the strength of his Duleep Trophy form. He was picked in the squad after Lokesh Rahul got injured during the Kanpur Test.
