Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray are part of the list of the latest water bill defaulters named by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on its website, according to reports.
The list was uploaded on the civic body's website on January 16, 2014 as per orders from the State Information Commissioner, following a Right to Information application by a Wadala resident, as reported by India Today.
A total of more than Rs. 1,000 crore is due from over 200,000 defaulters, which also includes the most respected cricketer in India, Sachin Tendulkar.
Action is usually taken keeping in view the amount that has to be cleared in the case of each defaulter.
"During every billing cycle, we prepare a list of top 100 or 500 defaulters. Action is taken against anyone featuring in this list," a BMC official revealed.
Bill payments made after the said period of 45 days are subject to legal action afterwards.
Tendulkar recently retired amid huge reception from fans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai when India played against the West Indies in the second and last Test match of the series, which was also the master blaster's 200th Test match.
