Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq became the third batsman to score more than 1000 runs (1017) this year when his 25 helped Pakistan beat South Africa by 66 runs in the second ODI in Dubai. He joined Australia's George Bailey (1094) and India's Virat Kohli (1033) in the exclusive club.
Under-fire after his side lost a Test to lowly-ranked Zimbabwe earlier this year, Misbah has shown enormous resolve in the face of criticism. Averaging 56.50 from 23 matches, the 39-year-old is now also the first ever Pakistan skipper to have amassed more than 1000 runs in a year. He still has a fair distance to travel to match Ricky Ponting who reached the mark four times as Australia skipper. Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya and Indian captains Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni have achieved the feat twice.
