Karachi:

Left-arm pacer Muhammad Irfan has sought permission from Pakistan Cricket Board to finalise a USD 75,000 deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders team for the next year's Indian Premier League.

Irfan, who flew off to England with young batsman Asad Shafiq to join the national squad for the one-day series, said he was keen to play for the KKR in the IPL IV.

"All the formalities of the deal with KKR have been finalised but now I require a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the Board to finalise the deal with KKR," Irfan said.

Perhaps the tallest bowler to be selected for Pakistan with a height that has come in at around 6.8" and 6.9", Irfan said playing for KKR would be a huge opportunity for him to improve and gain experience at the top level.

Irfan was offered a short term contract by KKR after he took part in the Kolkata team trials in Sri Lanka recently on the advice of former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, who is now a consultant with the KKR.

"I'm very happy to have such a huge opportunity and playing in the IPL is without doubt a great opportunity to do something big on the international stage."

Irfan was called up to join the national team in England as a replacement of suspended pacers Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Aamir.

Irfan's signing with the IPL comes after 11 Pakistani players were snubbed for the event despite being put up for auction in the last season of the tournament.

"I don't know about the past but I am following a proper procedure to secure the deal," said Irfan.

The bowler is hopeful that other Pakistani players will also be seen in action in the fourth edition of the IPL as under new regulations franchises have to get majority of their foreign signings through the players auction.
