India captain Rohit Sharma is a full package of entertainment, not just with the bat but also on the field. In the 5-match Test series against England, Rohit didn't just entertain with his bat but also his comments as he was tasked with the responsibility of leading a young Indian team. Rohit, widely considered as one of the most approachable captains, had fun leading youngsters like Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Rajat Patidar, Yashasvi Jaiswal etc.
During the on-field action, Rohit was also heard giving strict instructions to players, with "jo koi bhi garden mein goomega... (anyone who roams around as if he's in a garden...)", he was heard as saying by the stump-mic.
"The careers of some players end at 30, and for others like Rohit, it begins. Rohit has that self-confidence, self-belief. And the way he is captaining; we heard him say 'jo koi bhi garden mein ghoomega...' he is absolutely right. Some players are not giving importance to playing for the country. So yeah, he is spot on in scolding them," former India pacer Praveen Kumar said in an interview.
"He has so much confidence right now, the way Rohit is batting – especially in the World Cup – he has shown what he is capable of. He may or may not score a hundred but he wanted to score 80 off 40 balls. It's rare and amazing at the same time for Indian cricket that a player after 30 is doing all these incredible things. It will change that thinking that players need to be sidelined once they are 32-33," added Kumar.
The India skipper also shared a picture with India's youngsters after the conclusion of the series on Instagram. In the picture, he could be spotted with Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. It was Rohit's caption of the picture that broke the internet.
In the post, Rohit seemed to have poked fun at the youngsters for being a little casual on the field.
"Garden mein ghoomne wale bande," Rohit captioned the post, prompting replies from former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, as well as current star Suryakumar Yadav.
