Karachi:

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday said it would not field players breaking away from the Indian Cricket League in the Twenty20 World Cup if the ICC rules against such a move.

Pakistan has a few ICL players in its list of probables for the event which is due to be pruned to 15 next month.

PCB chief operating officer Saleem Altaf said that the Board has asked ICL Executive Board Chairman Kapil Dev to clarify whether the the league still had contracts with the Pakistani players.

"We have asked the ICL to let us know if they have suspended contracts of the Pakistani players temporarily or cancelled them. Because unless we have documentary evidence that the players have been released by ICL they wouldn't be considered for Pakistan selection," Altaf stated.

ICL players Abdul Razzaq, Rana Naved and Imran Nazir are in Pakistan's shortlist of 30 probables for the Twenty20 World Cup.

"We also want to know the exact picture as from June 1 the International Cricket Council will introduce stringent rules governing the organization of unrecognized and private tournaments and leagues and on players taking part in them," Altaf added.

Under the new ICC regulations the players who take part in such a league face a one-year ban.

Altaf said the board had also sought guidelines from the ICC. Pakistan has to name its final 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup by May 5.

Sources in the board said the PCB had requested the ICL to release some players who can play for the country and they were 50-50 chances this might happen.

"But if the matter is delayed until June 1 then the players can forget about playing for Pakistan for a year," a legal adviser of the board said.
