Chargesheet against Gurunath Meiyappan has nothing to do with me: N Srinivasan

BCCI president N Srinivasan has distanced himself from his son-in-law and cricket 'enthusiast' Gurunath Meiyappan in the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal.

The Mumbai Police is expected to file its chargesheet in the Indian Premier League corruption case today. NDTV has learnt that Chennai Super Kings' team principal Meiyappan is likely to be charged for betting.

"This is a matter for Mr Gurunath Meiyappan to deal with. If he is chargesheeted, the law will take it own course. He has been suspended so he has got nothing to do with the game," Srinivasan was quoted as saying by Outlook India.

"It is upto him to defend his position, it has got nothing to do with me," he added.

Srinivasan, whose company India Cements owns CSK, has stepped aside as BCCI chief for the duration of the probe. However, he will chair the Annual General Meeting on September 29 and will seek an extention to his presidential term.

"I will chair the meeting as president and inspite of what you (the media) feel, I may get elected," he added. (Srini in pole position in BCCI presidential race)

The IPL spot-fixing controversy arose in May with the arrest of Rajasthan Royals players Shantakumaran Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan by the Delhi Police for conceding more than a specified number of runs per over in return for money from illegal bookmakers. Sreesanth and Chavan are now facing life bans from BCCI.

The BCCI also handed out a five-year ban to Royals' Amit Singh, while another Rajasthan cricketer Siddharth Trivedi got a one-year suspension. There was no decision on Chandila, who recently got out on bail. His role is still being probed, and a decision will be taken soon.
