Deccan Chargers Vice President (Operation) Venkat Reddy on Wednesday demanded that a franchise owner should be chosen as the next IPL Commissioner.

New Delhi:

With Lalit Modi's days as the Indian Premier League boss appearing numbered, Deccan Chargers Vice President (Operation) Venkat Reddy on Wednesday demanded that a franchise owner should be chosen as the next IPL Commissioner.

Reddy said IPL is fuelled by the franchises' money and time is ripe for someone from among them taking over the reins from Modi, who is reportedly on his way out on charges of financial irregularities and nepotism in bidding process.

"At the end of day, it is franchises' money (even though the tournament) is run by BCCI-IPL. Let the Governing Council remain and let one of the franchise owners to be the (IPL) Commissioner and one guy from the BCCI be the Joint Commissioner. Together, they can run it properly," Reddy told a news channel.

"At the end of the day, IPL belongs to the franchises and two more franchises are joining from next year and (we) have to take it further.

"Now who comes (as the next IPL Commissioner) that is a different story but someone had to come and take it (forward)," Reddy said.
