Promising Yusuf Abdulla reckons his knowledge of local conditions will give him a clear edge over some other players.

Durban:

Itching to prove his mettle in the second edition of the Indian Premier League, promising South African pacer Yusuf Abdulla reckons his knowledge of local conditions will give him a clear edge over some other players.

Abdulla was a last-minute replacement for the injured Jerome Taylor in the King's XI Punjab squad and the Protea oozed confidence of making his mark in the high-profile event starting April 18.

"I'm familiar with the wickets, and that can play to my advantage," a confident Abdulla said.

The 26-year-old left-arm bowler considers IPL a golden opportunity to give a good account of himself in front of home crowd.

"I'm quite excited about the upcoming challenge. The IPL is in town and this is a good opportunity for me, hopefully I can do well," he added.

Punjab Kings XI assistant coach Dave Nosworthy also felt the newly signed pacer would add value to the team since he is familiar with the wickets.

"He's a talented bowler and it was a good opportunity for us to get some local talent into our squad," said Nosworthy, himself a South African.

Like Abdulla, Nosworthy too was elated after the second edition of the IPL was shifted to South Africa and the 41-year-old coach hoped that his wards would play entertaining brand of cricket throughout the Twenty20 tournament.

"It's exciting to have the IPL in the country and hopefully we'll perform to our capabilities and keep the crowds entertained," he said.

Under Yuvraj Singh, King's XI Punjab will start their IPL campaign against Delhi Daredevils at Sahara Park, Newlands on April 19.
