Asad Shafiq was unbeaten on 14 and Sarfraz Ahmed was on 15 with the tourists trailing by 182 runs with five wickets in hand.
Earlier, opener Kaushal Silva hit 125 before being ninth out in Sri Lanka's innings which ended during the post-lunch session.
