So, that's all from us for this game. It has surely been an exciting game of cricket. Mumbai have emerged victorious in this edge-of-the-seat thriller and picked up their first win of the season. Now we head to Indore for the 8th match of Indian T20 League between Punjab and Bangalore at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Another cracker of a game awaits us as we bid you goodbye from this one. Until then, take care and cheers!
The Man of the Match has been awarded to Nitish Rana for his excellent fifty in the run chase. He stood tall amidst the fall of wickets and then accelerated towards the end which was instrumental in his side winning the game.
Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma feels that it was very important to win this game. Reckons that his team is known for keeping everyone on the toes. Applauds Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya for their superb knocks. Credits the youngsters for executing the gameplans really well. Mentions that winning the game makes everyone happy. Ends by saying that fitness is very important and you need to give everything when you step out on the field.
Kolkata skipper, Gautam Gambhir feels that they lost in the last three overs. Credits Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya for the way they played. Adds that they trust their bowlers to win the games for them. Feels that nerves took over in the dying moments of the game. Reckons that any target on this wicket was chaseable. When asked on Chris Lynn's current condition, he says that as of now he has no updates on him.
Nitish Rana has to be given the credit as well for keeping his calm and dispatching the loose balls whenever he got the opportunity to do so. He scored a blazing 50 from 29 balls and stitched 41 off just 14 balls along with Hardik Pandya to almost seal the deal for his side. Kolkata would be kicking themselves, they had the edge for the most part but lost it in the last three overs as they missed some crucial chances and that ultimately cost them the game. Rajpoot bowled really well and got three wickets but was taken for runs in his last over. Narine, Woakes and Kuldeep too kept the pressure on the hosts but the home side took it away from them in the end and opened their account in this year's league in a grand fashion.
Phew! What a humdinger of a game we have just witnessed! Well, Wankhede is Mumbai's fortress and you got to admit it's really, really difficult to beat them in their den. Hardik Pandya, take a bow! He's taken his team over the line amidst immense pressure. Chasing a tough target of 179, the hosts got off to a good start but then a couple of quick wickets brought Kolkata back in the game.
