That is it from us then. It was a Rohit century at the WACA and the 'Gabba while it was a Kohli century at the MCG today. Each time, India have lost. The series is gone but there is pride to play for. Australia will be ruthless, as they are known to be and gun for 5-0 now. Can India bounce back at Canberra? Join us for the 4th ODI for the answer on Wednesday, 20th January, 2016 at 0850 IST (0320 GMT). Until then, Adios! Take Care!
Steven Smith said that they were pretty good with the bat and it was a good game overall for them. When asked about Maxwell he said that Maxwell's not about only reverse sweeps. He said that Maxwell has the cover drive, cut shots too in his repertoire. They would look to bat first if given a choice now that the series is pocketed. He reckoned that the surface at Canberra would be similar. On being asked about whether any areas of concern existed, he said that there was still room for improvement in all departments. He signed off by saying that he's looking forward to the next game.
GLENN MAXWELL IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He barely smiles. He seems to be relieved, more than excited. Though, he says it is amazing to come out on top of such a tough chase. Feels that the track was a slow one and it was not easy to play one's shots. On his batting style, he stresses that he is working to do more than just get the big hits. Is a bit annoyed that he broke what he considers his number 1 bat.
We are ready with the presentation. MS DHONI says that it is a tough loss to digest. Laments on the fielding effort, especially from whom he considers his best fielders. Is adamant that his side could not have got more than what it got today, on this deck. Does not want to really comment whether Ashwin could have played a pivotal role and rather stresses on the fact that India's pacers need to be more accurate.
India will be disappointed with this game. A loss hurts, but when you try hard and come close, yet lose, it hurts even more. The visitors were better with the ball tonight, but were inconsistent. A few lapses in the field and some directionless bowling when a new batsman was at the crease let Australia off the hook. Yes, Maxwell took the game away, but easy singles were given, twos were allowed to be converted into threes and apart from Jadeja, no one was able to build pressure throughout.
The hosts lost Finch relatively early but then Smith, Shaun Marsh and Bailey kept the chase under control. However, India bounced back with some few wickets in the middle overs. When Wade fell in the 39th over, with 81 needed from 71 balls, it was game on. But Maxwell and Faulkner, the two finishers, added a match-winning 80 from 63 balls, to coolly steer Australia home.
Australia win, and take unassailable lead. India, one has to say, were again let down by their bowling. The Aussie batsmen were let off the hook at the beginning. It seemed as if the run chase would end in a canter.
