The tourists, chasing a revised Duckworth-Lewis target of 236 in 35 overs, cruised home with eight balls to spare.
Sri Lanka had made 242-8 after electing to bat in a game that had to be reduced to 35 overs-a-side when heavy rain interrupted play after just two overs.

Hard fought win for England as they keep themselves alive in the series! This match swung like a pendulum. Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali gave England a flying start to the chase with the latter once again looking in fine touch. Things slowed down a bit in the middle overs when England lost Cook and Ali within a span of three overs. Ravi Bopara and Eoin Morgan flopped with the bat and Sri Lanka made a superb comeback in the game. They almost had the match in their pocket but the 84 off 63 balls stand between Jos Buttler and Joe Root snatched victory from them.
