Pakistan salvaged a draw in the second Test against New Zealand in Dubai on Friday after being set a challenging target of 261 off 72 overs on the back of a brilliant hundred by Ross Taylor. Catch all the highlights of the match here: (SCORECARD)
Pakistan's loss of four early wickets meant all results were still possible at tea but in the end they fell 65 runs short when bad light ended play five overs early.
Asad Shafiq scored 41 not out and Sarfraz Ahmed an unbeaten 24 as Pakistan finished on 196 for five, with the draw preserving their 1-0 lead in the three-match series following last week's 248-run win Abu Dhabi.
It was an entertaining final day in front of an 8,000-strong holiday crowd who anticipated a Pakistan win after New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum had sportingly declared his second innings at 250-9.
That was made possible after Ross Taylor notched a brilliant 104 -- his 12th Test century.
Live Score: Pakistan vs New Zealand updates
Pakistan lead the series 1-0 with a game to go and the Kiwis will look to win the final one and come back. That's all we have for you from this game, do join us for the final game at Sharjah between these two sides starting 26th November 2014. Until then, it's goodbye and take care!
ROSS TAYLOR IS ADJUDGED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. It was his ton that brought the game to a level after the Pakistan spinners had triggered a collapse. He starts off saying that the cut shot worked for him, he was low on confidence before and the innings helped. Credits the Pakistan bowlers for bowling well. Mentions that on such decks, you get that rare misbehaving ball to take you out, so he was looking to score and get runs for his team.
YOUNUS KHAN gets an award for being the player to hit most tons in Test cricket for Pakistan. He also gets the MASTER BLASTER award. TOM LATHAM gets the best batsman award. SARFRAZ AHMED gets the most colorful innings award. TRENT BOULT gets an award for being the fastest bowler of the match. YASIR SHAH gets the OUTSTANDING PLAYER of the game award.
Chasing 261, Pakistan lost Umar early. Ali and Masood steadied them with a 50-run stand before three quick wickets pegged them back in the game. Younus and Shafiq though played well and ensured there were no further wickets going down till Tea. After Tea, Younus did get out and the pair of Ahmed and Shafiq did play a few shots to entertain the crowd, but the result was never in doubt and it ended in a draw.
Few days ago, which seems like ages ago, New Zealand won the toss and put a huge score thanks to a brilliant ton by Tom Latham. Pakistan then responded in their own manner before Sarfraz resurrected the innings with a ton to ensure the lead was not too big for the Kiwis. The game turned on its head as the Pakistan spinners ran through the Kiwi line-up with Yasir picking up a 5-for. Ross Taylor was the lone warrior for the visitors as he scored a ton to take the lead past 200. Quick cameos from the lower order ensured the target when McCullum declared was a par one for the course.
IT'S A DRAW! It took a message from the Pakistan dressing room to get this to a draw. It was always going to be one despite the drama. Once Younus and Shafiq batted out a session, the only result possible was a DRAW. Handshakes all-round but the Kiwis will think they have missed out on a win. And Pakistan may have missed out on a win as well, if you go by Rameez Raja's logic.
