An acrimonious incident marred the Indian Premier League proceedings in Kolkata on Sunday when the Kolkata Knight Riders team bus was pelted with stones on their way to Eden Gardens for their clash against MI.
The team bus, which left from the ITC Sonar hotel, was attacked at Park Circus by a mob.
People threw stones at the bus and a glass was cracked.
Kolkata police's Sanjeev- convoy pilot confirmed the incident to MiD DAY. "There were easily around 200 people gathered and suddenly a few of them started throwing stones at the bus. Luckily, we all escaped unhurt. There is no injury to any players as well," he said.
The mob was cleared after police intervened. KKR's team director, Joy Bhattacharya could not be reached for a comment.
Eden full for first time in IPL
The atmosphere at Eden Gardens was electrifying as the venue received its first full house for an Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Sixty nine thousand people witnessed the Mumbai Indians versus KKR match on Sunday.
"This is the first time we have received full house in this season and also in the history of IPL. It is an absolute joy to see such a large turnout here," Cricket Association of Bengal's joint secretary Biswarup Dey told MiD DAY.
The KKR versus Chennai Super Kings match had managed to attract 50,000 in IPL IV here.
