Mumbai:
Khan, now undergoing a two-week rehabilitation process as per the decision of the IPL's Technical Committee after his bowling action was reported as suspect, has won the team's 'HDFC Standard Life Most Valuable Player of the Match' award, worth USD 1000 each, twice, said the franchise team's Chief Marketing Officer, Raghu Iyer, on Thursday.
"Kamran Khan and Yusuf Pathan have been named by Warne twice for the award. Abhishek Raut and Naman Ojha have won it once each while Warne has withheld naming the MVP for one match and the other had been washed out," Iyer said at a media conference.
Warne has decided to double the prize money for the award that has been held in abeyance, he added.
Iyer said the focus of the team now, as far as Khan was concerned, was to get him back to fitness following an unspecified injury though correcting his action also remained on its radar.
"Darren Berry and Jeremy Snape (members of the team's support staff) are working to correct it. But the focus is more on making him recover from his injury," said Iyer.
Kamran was reported by on-field umpires Rudi Koertzen and Gary Baxter after the Royals' match against Chennai Super Kings at the Centurion in Pretoria last week.
The IPL Technical Committee later reviewed the left-arm pacer's action after which they decided to recommend the rehabilitation process.
The Technical Committee meeting in South Africa was attended by former India captains Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri, besides IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi, who were joined via a teleconference by Anurag Thakur and MAK Pataudi from India.
Iyer said currently the focus of the IPL authorities and the franchise owners was to see that the event was conducted successfully in South Africa.
"We have the sponsors. All the teams have got sponsors and done well. Currently the focus is to hold the event successfully," he said.
A musical video, featuring Warne, South Africa captain Graeme Smith, Yusuf Pathan and a few other players along with team's co-owner and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, was unveiled by Royals' sponsors HDFC Standard Life.
