Indian cricket team's limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is in New York to promote his upcoming biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, which delves into the cricket legend's hardest decisions and how he changed the tracks of his life.
During a press conference at Fox News headquarters in New York, the 35-year-old Indian skipper told reporters that he thought that the movie would release once he retires, but it turned out to be quite fast.
"It was hard for me to narrate my story because I am person who believes in living in the present. The past or future do not matter to me, so it is very hard when I am asked to recount episodes from my childhood or from several years ago," Dhoni said.
It is not often you see India's greatest religions - cricket and Bollywood combine, but they come together in this movie.
The film chronicles Dhoni's journey from a ticket collector to one of the world's most famous sport legend, but the 2011 World Cup winning captain says the movie aims not to glorify him but inspire.
"Govt job milni mushkil hai, chhorni usse bhi mushkil hai (It is more difficult to give up a government job than to get it)," Dhoni said, adding his life's philosophy is to keep it simple. "You see a ball, you hit a ball. The moment you get into yorkers and off spin, it gets too complicated."
Asked why he didn't play himself in the movie, Dhoni said it's "better to leave the acting to others, I will stick to cricket" and paid a huge compliment to Sushant Singh Rajput, who plays Dhoni in the movie, saying the actor trained so hard for six months, "he could be better than some cricketers."
For a man whose every public move is well documented, not much is known about his personal life. However, this movie shares that, from his former girlfriend who died in a tragic accident to the relationship Dhoni shares with his parents.
MS Dhoni says that though he is very close to his parents, he "never speaks to them about cricket, never has and never will. We talk about everything else."
The film releases worldwide on September 30 and even if half of Dhoni fans show up in theaters its success is a sitter.
