Shane Warne questions fine imposed by BCCI

Shane Warne, the Rajasthan Royals skipper, broke his silence after being slapped with a $50,000 fine for his spat with Sanjay Dixit, and said he failed to understand why nothing happened to the RCA secretary.

Warne escaped a ban but was fined heavily by the IPL's disciplinary commission in Mumbai on Wednesday for calling RCA secretary Sanjay Dixit a "liar and egoistic" after an IPL match in Jaipur, forcing RR owner Shilpa Shetty to intervene and apologise for the incident. "Unfair that I get fined while Sanjay Dixit gets away with saying whatever he feels like," Warne told NDTV in an exclusive interview. Dixit, who is also an IAS officer, had blasted Warne and Tendulkar on Twitter and trashed Warne in a website article.

"My fight with Dixit was immature on both our parts," he added.

On Wednesday, Warne found support from former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who also lashed out at the BCCI for being "money minded".

"BCCI money minded heads targeting a legend like Warne is uncalled for. They are indirectly attacking all your close friends. Shame on them," Modi wrote on his Twitter account.

"USD 50000 fine for Warne while Dixit is free to punch away on twitter! unbelievable! not a word from the BCCI on Dixit mocking Tendulkar," he added.

Modi further said: "USD 50k would have bought Kaif for the IPL.. The incident is a big shame and I m sure each cricket lover would be upset right now."

"BCCI ought to have been magnanimous and left the legend accepting the apology. A fine should only commensurate with the damage done," he tweeted.

Despite his spat with the Rajasthan Cricket Association secretary, the Australian remained positive about being associated with the Rajasthan team in the future.

Warne, who will play his last IPL match against the Mumbai Indians, said it was only appropriate to end his IPL stint as a player against Sachin Tendulkar.

"It's appropriate that my last game is versus Sachin," Warne said.  

"Sachin is the greatest player I have played against," he added.
