INDW vs AUSW, One-Off Test, Live Updates
We are back with the Indian second innings. Smriti Mandhana will be taking the strike with Shafali Verma as her partner on the other end. Darcie Brown will be opening the attack for Australia Women.
... THIRD INNINGS ...
The task ahead for India - With a 125-run deficit to erase, the Indian batters enter a critical phase of the match where survival will be the top priority. The primary goal will be to navigate the treacherous pink ball under lights and reach the end of the day with minimal damage. If they can see out this testing period, they will hope to post a substantial target on Day 3 to put the Aussies under pressure. However, with Australia firmly in the driver’s seat, it will be a true test of character for the visitors to stay in the contest. We will be back soon.
India’s Bowling Effort - India’s bowlers showed flashes of brilliance throughout the innings, led by Sayali Satghare, who finished with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 50. Kranti Gaud and Deepti Sharma provided vital breakthroughs with two wickets apiece, while Sneh Rana and Shafali Verma chipped in with one each. India now faces a daunting task as they head into the twilight session, where the pink ball is expected to dart around under the lights.
Sutherland’s century and the tail-tend surge - The standout performance of the innings belonged to Annabel Sutherland, who converted her solid start into a magnificent 129. Her century was the backbone of the Australian total, highlighted by disciplined stroke play and excellent strike rotation. Following her departure, crucial lower-order contributions from Alana King and Lucy Hamilton ensured the momentum wasn't lost, pushing the team past the 300-run mark. Australia Women were eventually bundled out for 323, securing a significant 125-run first-innings lead.
The Perry-Sutherland rescue - Australia’s pursuit of India’s 198 began on shaky ground as the Indian seamers exploited the early movement to leave the hosts reeling at 58/3. However, the momentum shifted dramatically through a masterful 128-run partnership between Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland. Perry played a composed and vital knock of 76 to steady the ship, while Sutherland took control of the innings, anchoring the crease with authority. Their clinical association not only erased the early deficit but firmly placed the pressure back on the Indian bowling attack.
OUT! CAUGHT! Australia have been bowled out for 323 with a lead of 125 runs. Sayali Satghare ends with a four-wicket haul on debut. Angling away, on a short of a length. With mid-wicket up, Hamilton swivels on the back foot to go up and over that fielder. Gets it right off the toe end of the blade and spoons it to Sneh Rana at mid-wicket, who moves to her right and does the rest. A handy knock from Lucy Hamilton comes to an end.
Leaving the left-hander, on a length. Lucy Hamilton pushes out in front but is beaten on the outside edge.
DROPPED! Kashvee Gautam shells a sitter. Full and on middle, Lucy Hamilton looks to flick it away on the leg side with a closed bat face. Miscues it off a leading edge towards mid on. Gautam moves to her right and gets low but fails to cling on. The ball hits her palm and drops to the ground.
Too straight, full in length, on the pads. Hamilton flicks it away neatly to the right of deep square leg and collects a couple of runs with ease.
Half a shout for LBW, but that has pitched outside leg. Fuller and on leg, Hamilton is beaten on the flick and is rapped on the front pad. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes away on the leg side.
On the shorter side, across off, Lucy Hamilton lets it go.
FOUR! Lovely shot! Floated up there by Gaud, a bit too full, on off. Lucy Hamilton presses forward and waits a bit before unleashing the drive to the left of the diving mid off fielder. Australia's lead is now 122.
Pushed across the left-hander as Kranti switches to over the wicket. Lucy looks to force it away on the off side but miscues it off an inside edge to mid on.
NO BALL! Drifting down leg, on a length. Hamilton misses out on the glance.
FOUR! Uppish but in the gap! Kranti pulls the length back, outside off, Hamilton waits on the back foot and flays at it. It goes uppishly but away from Kashvee Gautam at backward point to her left for a boundary.
Full and a hint of shape back in, on off. Lucy Hamilton throws her hands at it. She drives it on the bounce to cover.
Kranti Gaud will be bowling from the other end.
Goes full but does not find much swing, outside off. Brown shoulders arms.
On a back of a length, outside off. Brown angles it off the back foot to backward point.
