Kapil Dev signalled the start of India's 250th home Test match when he rang the bell at Eden Gardens in Kolkata ahead of the 2nd Test vs New Zealand.
Former India captain Kapil Dev had been invited to do the honours of ringing the Lord's-like bell by Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
"This was (president) Sourav Ganguly's idea and Kapil has agreed to ring the bell on the morning of the Test," CAB joint-secretary Avishek Dalmiya had said.
India, who lead the three-match series against New Zealand 1-0, won the toss at Eden Gardens on Friday, and opted to bat first. The hosts lost the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan early in the innings, after the opener was bowled for 1 by Matt Henry.
