Despite three separate inspections, the umpires decided to call off play due to the wet outfield. A pity that the sun came out so late. A couple of hours earlier, and we may have had some action. Nevertheless, two more days of cricket remain in the bag.
The silver lining out of all of this is that there is no more rain forecast on the final two days. If everything goes right, we could have two long days of cricket to try and get a result out of the second Test match.
Big disappointment for both the players and the passionate fans in Kanpur. Two entire days have been washed out. The umpires and team management officials shake hands, signalling an official end to Day 3.
IND vs BAN Live Score: Safety of the players in question
The sun is shining brightly in Kanpur, but the news that play has been called off has stunned us all. Tamim Iqbal mentions that the players' safety is a huge concern, in the case of an improper field.
Tamim also slams the drainage system of the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
Tamim Iqbal, commentator on the official broadcast, has revealed that play has been reportedly called off, as per news from his brother who is the team manager of Bangladesh.
The sun is out here in Kanpur. This is massive positive news. Soggy patches in the mid-off, long-off region has been the big problem so far, but the sun can help dry the patches.
From 9:30 AM (scheduled start time) till now, there has been no rain at all. Despite that, play has not been possible due to the number of soggy and wet patches in the outfield. The sun has not come out much in Kanpur, making it difficult to dry the ground.
We are just a few minutes away from the next umpire inspection, scheduled to take place at 2 PM IST. The packed crowd in Kanpur, as well as many fans at home, are eagerly waiting for some positive news and some cricket action today.
IND vs BAN Live Score: Huge stat in India's favour
New Zealand have never won an away series in World Test Championship history. Their next challenge? Team India. A massive task to try and change that record.
IND vs BAN Live Score: 1 hour till the next update
We are one hour away from the next update, scheduled to take place at 2 PM. Fingers crossed this will be more positive than the last two umpire inspections.
If no play is possible after 2 PM, we are unlikely to have any more action on Day 3.
While only two days of full action may not be enough to force a result, the teams will be hoping that the overcast conditions and the rough patches on the pitch make a decisive difference.
On Day 2, play had been called off by this time. However, with no rain at all, umpires and officials today are hopeful for some action. Maybe not even 35 overs, but anything to get the Test match rolling again.
The big issue preventing play are the wet patches on the outfield, which haven't dried due to a lack of sunshine.
Meanwhile, let's take a small peek into India's next opponents, New Zealand. As it stands, they are set to suffer an innings defeat against Sri Lanka in the second Test (and lose the series 2-0!).
The next inspection being at 2 PM signals that no play will be possible in the second session either, which is supposed to run officially between 12:10 PM and 2:10 PM.
Yet more frustration for the players, but perhaps even more so for the fans. A Test is being hosted at Kanpur for the first time in nearly 3 years, and this is not the way the fans would've wanted to welcome back Team India.
As soon as the umpires walked out onto the Kanpur pitch, they were greeted by big cheers from the grandstands. For a Test match, the ground is quite packed, and many fans wait expectantly for cricket action today.
Still no sun out, and no sign of wind either. This has meant the wet patches on the outfield have still not dried up. A clear safety concern, apparently.
Meanwhile, India announced their T20I squad for the Bangladesh series last night. The big talking points were that 156.7 kmph pace sensation Mayank Yadav got his long-awaited India call-up, while Ruturaj Gaikwad was left out.
There's good news and bad news. The good news is that rain is not expected for the time being, as per forecast. The bad news is that there's still very little sunshine to dry the outfield and start play.
No play could be made possible at the start of Day 3. There has been a lot of work on the pitch, but the outfield remains soggy, due to the lack of sunshine. The umpire inspection at 10 AM stated that no play could be possible for the time being.
Bangladesh are 107/3 against India in the first innings of the second Test. The caveat? No play has been possible for a day and a half now. Only 35 overs bowled in Kanpur, after which the rain gods have had quite a big say.

It seems like the big need is for the sun to come out and dry the wet patches on the outfield. As of now, it has no dried quickly enough for play to resume.
Still overcast in Kanpur, but weather forecast suggests a little bit of sun as the afternoon gets on.
The next inspection at 12 PM means that no play will be possible for 5 consecutive sessions. Session 3 of Day 1, all three sessions of Day 2, and the first session of Day 3.
A lot of rough patches are formed on the pitch over the day and a half of no action. The bowlers could be favoured massively, which is great news for Team India.
"Soggy patches on the outfield. No sun yet," reports Murali Kartik from the pitch. The bowlers and fielders will struggle for footing in this outfield.
The pitch inspection is set to start anytime now. Officials and ground staff are still surrounding the pitch, and efforts are still being made. The umpires should be taking their decision soon.
