Indian bowlers struggled against solid batting display by South Africans of the rain-interrupted first day of the first four-day 'Test' in Kerala on Tuesday.(Ramela Ton Gives South Africa A Advantage)
Riding on a brilliant century by batsman Omphile Ramela, South Africa A reached 293 for four in 88 overs at stumps. Ramela hit a fluent 121 off 197 balls with 12 fours and three sixes. Temba Bavuma (55 not out) and Dane Piedt (0 not out) remained unbeaten for the visitors at end of first day's play. Opener Reeza Hendricks also hit fifty to pile pressure on the hosts.(Day 1 Highlights)
For the hosts, left-arm spinner Axar Patel claimed two wickets while Ishwar Pandey and Jayant Yadav picked one wicket each.
Axar and Jayant Yadav bowled the most number of overs -- 24 each -- but it was the left-arm spinner who got the big fish Ramela just before stumps. Axar, who is believed to be the "roller" and "not the turner of the ball" by cricket pundit Sunil Gavaskar, will remain a key figure as Indians look to restrict the Proteas soonest.
