Former Australia captain Steve Waugh on Monday denied of backing fellow countryman Ricky Ponting's demand of gettind rid of toss before a Test match, stating that he would prefer the system to remain as it is.
Recently it was reported in a section that Waugh is against spin of coin but he said that he was taken out of context.
"Someone asked me about the toss off-the-cuff. I said I prefer to see the toss to stay as it is. I was taken out of context. What I said was it is not a bad idea, but still prefer having a toss," Waugh said during a promotional event.
Ponting, during the Ashes series in England, had suggested to do away with toss and give powers to the visiting side taking a call on who bats first to counteract any advantage the hosts may gain from preparing a pitch that suits them best.
Waugh said he supported Miandad, a Pakistani great, who opposed calls given by Ponting and Holding to do away with toss.
"I agree with Javed Miandad. If you are a good player, you should be able to handle conditions, no matter what they present," he said.
The former Pakistan captain had advised the ICC against banning the spin of coin.
