Here are the highlights of Day 5 of the 1st Test between India and Sri Lanka on Friday.

Highlights: India vs SL, 1st Test, Day 5

New Delhi:

  • Mahela Jayawardene has received his 9th Man of the Match award.

  • Sachin Tendulkar is the first to amass 30,000 runs in international cricket.

  • Tendulkar (1512) is the first to aggregate 1500 runs in India-Sri Lanka Tests.

  • India have posted 400 in each innings of a Test match for the second time, the first instance being 407 & 407 for 9 wickets declared against Pakistan in the 2004-05 Kolkata Test.

  • Muttiah Muralitharan (38-6-124-0), for the third time, has recorded a dubious feat, failing to claim a single wicket while conceding 100 or more runs in an innings.

  • Seven hundreds - 3 by Sri Lanka and 4 by India - is a new record on Indian soil. Both Sri Lanka and India feature for the first time in a Test match, when seven centuries have been made.

  • Amit Mishra (24 off 51 balls) has registered his best ever innings.

  • India-Sri Lanka Test at Ahmedabad is the first between the two nations, which could not produce a result. Sri Lanka had lost both the previous Tests to India - by an innings and 17 runs in 1993-94 and by 259 runs in 2005-06.

  • VVS Laxman (51 not out) has posted his 40th fifty - his fourth against Sri Lanka.

  • Sachin Tendulkar has posted his 43rd century, extending his world record. He has now registered 32 centuries in the first innings and 11 in the second.

  • Sachin is the first to post three hundreds at Motera.

  • Gambhir has posted his seventh Test hundred - his first against Sri Lanka and his fourth in India.

  • With two hundreds in successive Tests against New Zealand, followed by one against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad, Gautam Gambhhir has registered a rare feat. He became the sixth Indian to make three hundreds or more in successive Tests, joining Sunil Gavaskar (4 between 1976-77 and 1977-78 & 3 during 1970-71), Rahul Dravid (4 between 2002 and 2002-03), Vijay Hazare (3 between 1948-49 and 1951-52), Polly Umrigar (3 between 1960-61 and 1961-62) and Mohammad Azharuddin (3 during 1984-85 and 3 between 1989-90 and 1990).

  • Gambhir in his last eight Tests, has recorded six hundreds.
