London:

Batsman Ian Bell and left-arm seamer Ryan Sidebottom have been recalled to the England squad for second Test against the West Indies which starts on Thursday at Chester-le-Street.

Bell, dropped after a Test defeat in Jamaica in February, provided selectors with an extra batting option at the seam-friendly Riverside.

Sidebottom, whose tour of the Caribbean was cut short by an Achilles tendon injury, is also included in the 13-man squad after the selectors weighed up bowling options for the final match of the series.

The XI which secured a 10-wicket victory over the West Indies at Lord's on Friday have all been retained.

"Both Bell and Sidebottom have been in form in the early part of the season and have been a part of the England setup in recent years," national selector Geoff Miller said. "Ryan Sidebottom has recovered from surgery after the Caribbean tour and reports that he is now bowling pain-free."

Left-armer Monty Panesar was in the 12 for Lord's but has been overtaken as first-choice spinner in the Test team by Graeme Swann.

"Panesar is unlucky but it was always highly unlikely that we would play two spinners at Chester-le-Street," Miller said.
