New Delhi:
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was presented with the International Cricket Council's Test championship mace on Sunday for his country topping the rankings in the longest form of the sport.
The mace was awarded by ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat at a special ceremony in the Indian capital.
India surpassed South Africa to become No. 1 after winning 2-0 in the recent three-test series against Sri Lanka.
Only Australia and South Africa have previously been the No. 1 team since the inception of the rankings in 2001.
"I'm proud to lead a team that has translated potential into performance," Dhoni said. "It's a very special feeling and reflects on our hard work over the past two years. We'd like to stay there as long as we can."
