Bangladesh vs Pakistan 1st ODI
Wrap from the First ODI - That brings us to the end of this game, where Bangladesh brushed aside Pakistan to go 1-0 up in the series. The hosts will now look to seal the deal in the next match, while the visitors will be desperate to bounce back and force a decider. We will be back at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Friday, 13th March, for the second ODI, which begins at 8.15 AM GMT. As always, you can join us a little earlier for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Confident of getting the results - Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the victorious skipper of Bangladesh, says they were playing the ODI format after a long time, but he is happy with how the team has performed. Shares Nahid Rana bowled brilliantly and in the right areas today. Reckons they know how important the next two games are and are confident of getting the results.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Nahid Rana wins the award for his superb spell, finishing with figures of 5/24(7). He says that this was his first international match here in Mipur, so it was even more special for him to perform well and contribute to the team. Adds that it feels good, and he definitely wants to keep performing like this consistently. Rana mentions that the wicket had something for both batters and bowlers, it did help early on to get some movement, and they exploited it well. Ends by saying that their plan was to hit the right areas and keep tight lines and let the pitch do the rest.
Partnerships are crucial in this format - Shaheen Afridi, the captain of Pakistan, says that they started well before Nahid Rana came in to bowl. He thinks they bowled really well, but didn't get the start they wanted in the first game. Afridi acknowledges that partnerships are crucial in one-day cricket, both in batting and bowling, but at the same time, he backed his teammates. On the preparation for the upcoming clash, he says that he is looking ahead, focusing on the next game, saying there are still two games left and he believes that they can turn this over.
Presentation Time...
Rana's fiery spell leaves Pakistan in ruins - Earlier in the game, Pakistan were blown away by a magical spell from Nahid Rana, who picked up his maiden ODI five-for, finishing with figures of 5/24, including a wicket in each of his first five overs. Mehidy picked up a three-fer, while Taskin and Fizz chipped in with one each. Pakistan actually began well with a 41-run opening stand, but things quickly unravelled once Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed. Faheem Ashraf's fighting 37 helped them crawl past the 100-run mark, but the resistance was brief as they were eventually bowled out for 114. With seven single-digit scores in the lineup, it made for a rather sorry-looking scorecard.
Bangladesh cruise home - Chasing a modest total, Bangladesh made light work of the target. Saif Hassan could not make much of an impact, but Tanzid Hasan was at his absolute best, displaying a wide range of shots and scoring freely all around the ground. Najmul Hossain Shanto played second fiddle as the duo added 82 runs together, taking the attack to the bowlers. Tanzid brought up a fine half-century and remained unbeaten on 67 as Bangladesh chased down the target in just over 15 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim managed to pick up a wicket each, but Pakistan needed a lot more on the board. In truth, it was their batters who failed to show up, leaving the bowlers with far too little to defend.
Hosts outclass Pakistan in Mirpur - Utter domination from Bangladesh with both bat and ball, outplaying Pakistan in every aspect of the game. A perfect start for the hosts in the ODI series as they take an early lead, and it also goes down as a statement win, having never really allowed the visitors even a sniff in the contest. It also marks Bangladesh's fourth consecutive ODI win over Pakistan in Mirpur, continuing their strong record at the venue since the famous whitewash of 2015.
