David Warner | 10 | 11 | 2 | 0 | 90.90 |
c Marco Jansen b Anrich Nortje
3.4 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! That is a sharp, sharp catch from Marco Jansen! That went to him so quickly. Anrich Nortje gets the early breakthrough and it is of the dangerous David Warner! He continues bowling the line outside off but this time the length is fractionally short. Warner looks for the cut but the line and length was not the right one to play that shot. It flies off the outside edge to first slip where it is taken nicely. David Warner began really well and will be disappointed to have gotten out in that way. He could have left that delivery like he has been doing so far. 12/1

Marnus Labuschagne | 79 | 151 | 13 | 0 | 52.31 |
c Kyle Verreynne b Anrich Nortje
47 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Anrich Nortje gets the second wicket! The 135-run stand is broken! The break helps South Africa to find the breakthrough. This is serious pace from Nortje! Short of a length, angling around off before nipping away. Labuschagne gets on his toes as he tries to defend on the leg side with soft hands but the ball touches the shoulder of the bat and goes straight in the mitts of Kyle Verreynne. A fine innings from Marnus Labuschagne comes to an end. 147/2
Steven Smith | 104 | 192 | 11 | 2 | 54.16 |
c & b Keshav Maharaj
109.1 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Hundred and out for Smith! He goes back to a standing ovation. The stand which crossed the 200-mark is over. He would have liked a bit more but has to go now. Keshav Maharaj floats one full and on middle. Smith dances down and across to work towards mid-wicket but hits more off the outer half of the bat back to Keshav Maharaj who takes it back at a good height. End of one of his best knock. 356/3
Travis Head | 70 | 59 | 8 | 1 | 118.64 |
c sub Rassie van der Dussen b Kagiso Rabada
128.3 OUT! TAKEN! Head goes! Yet another fine innings comes to an end! Head goes after doing his job. Kagiso Rabada bangs it short and on middle. Head clears his front leg and pulls but gets a top edge, it goes flat and to deep square leg where Rassie van der Dussen (sub) dives to his left and takes a really good low catch. That needed some catching. The skipper strikes. 468/4

Dean Elgar C | 15 | 34 | 2 | 0 | 44.11 |
c Alex Carey b Josh Hazlewood
8.5 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! There comes the wicket. A short ball, around off, angled in, Elgar looked to play, then pull, and in the process, just got a nick behind. Carey pouched it and appealed and up went the finger. 22/1
Sarel Erwee | 18 | 55 | 2 | 0 | 32.72 |
b Nathan Lyon
17.5 OUT! BOWLED! Left alone and gone! Dear or dear. We have seen this so many times against fast bowlers, but against spinners? Oh yes, remember one of Virat Kohli against Steve O'Keefe in Pune, 2017. Horror moment for Erwee. The length is just dragged back a little this time, a tad shorter than full. Sarel Erwee lets it go, anticipating the ball to bounce over the stumps. But to his shock, the ball comes in with the angle and just clips the off stump! Now now, if Sir Geoff Boycott had been watching this, he would have snapped, 'Well kid, you have got the bat to play, not leave the ball!' 37/2
Heinrich Klaasen | 2 | 22 | 0 | 0 | 9.09 |
c Alex Carey b Pat Cummins
18.3 OUT! Carey likes it, Pat Cummins likes it and the umpire also likes it! And Heinrich Klaasen does not like it, but is not wasting his side's review. The new number 3 is also gone. CAUGHT DOWN THE LEG SIDE! Cummins bowls some really uncomfortable balls and you cannot be defending him, on the front foot, that too, outside the crease. Pat saw his technique and did not take long to set up this plan. Banged in short, caught Klaasen by surprise, who looked to fend and feathered one down the leg side to Alex Carey. Trouble again, for the Saffas with the bat. 37/3
Temba Bavuma | 35 | 74 | 1 | 2 | 47.29 |
c Alex Carey b Josh Hazlewood
38.1 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Bavuma goes and he is pretty disappointed. Could have easily left it alone. What a delivery though from Hazlewood. He is spitting fire. This is on a length and outside off, nips in off the deck. Bavuma has a feel for it but only gets an outside edge to the keeper, Alex Carey who pouches it comfortably. Australia believe in themselves. 85/4
Khaya Zondo | 39 | 83 | 2 | 2 | 46.98 |
lbw b Pat Cummins
48.4 OUT! LBW! That looked close but Zondo thinks there is some bat on it. He reviews the decision. HotSpot shows nothing on it. Snicko shows no bat there. THREE REDS on the Ball Tracking and Zondo has to go. Brilliance from the skipper. Cummins has come up with a plan and Zondo falls into the trap. A yorker from 'round the wicket on middle. Zondo was late to squeeze it out and gets hit on the pads. An appeal and up goes the finger. Zondo thinks there was some bat but the technology doesn't support him. Zondo is surprised. Cummins is all class. 5 down now. 130/5
Kyle Verreynne Wk | 19 | 39 | 2 | 0 | 48.71 |
c Steven Smith b Pat Cummins
52.4 OUT! TAKEN! Australia have the last known batter here! They are surely going for the win! What a spell this is from the skipper. He is bowling with full energy at the moment. This is full and outside off, nips a bit in. Verreynne without any foot movement tries to push but gets an outside edge to Steven Smith who shows save pair of hands at widish first slip. Stunning spell from Cummins. 137/6
Marco Jansen | 11 | 78 | 1 | 0 | 14.10 |
c Alex Carey b Travis Head
74 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Travis Head strikes! Gets the wicket Australia were desperate for this morning. This is flatter and on off, this goes on with the arm. Marco Jansen goes back to defend but does so inside the line, for the turn which was not there. It goes off the outside edge and it is taken by the keeper. Can they now take the other three quickly? 167/7
Simon Harmer | 47 | 165 | 4 | 0 | 28.48 |
b Josh Hazlewood
107 OUT! BOWLED'EM! Massive wicket for the Aussies! They needed it badly! What a spell this is from Hazlewood! He fires in and lands a length ball, outside off, a bit of reverse-swing here and Harmer looks to punch but gets an inside edge and the ball ricochets back onto the stumps. His fourth wicket. Simon Harmer goes for a hard-made 47. Played really well. 255/9
Keshav Maharaj | 53 | 81 | 6 | 1 | 65.43 |
lbw b Josh Hazlewood
100.4 A HUGE APPEAL AND THE FINGER IS RAISED! Maharaj reviews! Is it pad first or bat first? It seems pad first! It is pad first and Hawk Eye shows THREE REDS! OUT! There is the wicket Australia wanted. They have got it immediately after the break and South Africa are still 24 runs away from avoiding the follow-on! This is on a length and around off, it lands and comes back in. Keshav Maharaj looks to defend but it seems to havehit both, bat and pad. A loud shout and the finger is raised. It was pad first. A superb knock from Maharaj comes to an end. 252/8
Kagiso Rabada | 3 | 22 | 0 | 0 | 13.63 |
c & b Nathan Lyon
108 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Nathan Lyon gets the final wicket! Floats one full and around middle. Rabada tries to retain the strike on the final ball as he pushes on the up towards mid on but his bat turns and Lyon runs to his left to take the catch. 255/10

8.1 OUT! TAKEN! The skipper gets the opposition skipper! Pat Cummins keeps doing the good work! This is short and tailing down the leg side. Elgar tries to fend it away but gets some gloves on it as he does so and Alex Carey behind the stumps takes a sharp catch. 27/1
Heinrich Klaasen | 35 | 61 | 3 | 0 | 57.37 |
b Josh Hazlewood
27 OUT! BOWLED! Finally, Australia have their deserving wicket! They were made to work hard for this one. Still, around 20 overs remaining. Game on! Beauty from Hazlewood! Serves a length ball, around off and finds some swing. Klaasen is stranded on his crease as he looks to work it out but is late and the ball goes through the gate, beats his inside edge and hits the stumps. 75/2
