Ajinkya Rahane's 188-run knock in the first innings of the 3rd Test vs New Zealand has seen the Indian batsman being showered with praises from various quarters.
Rahane played a composed knock as he struck up a 365-run partnership with skipper Virat Kohli, who scored 211, to take India to 557/5 before the team's declaration on Day 2.
Cricket great Sunil Gavaskar, in an exclusive chat with NDTV, has expressed his awe at Rahane's exploits, and has called the right-hander India's 'most complete batsman' at present.
"Ajinkya Rahane is India's most complete batsman at this stage. Like Virat Kohli, he is never satisfied by what he does. I am sure Virat will acknowledge how important a role Rahane has played for India. When you have the confidence of your captain, you are motivated to do even better," he said of the in-form Rahane.
With India taking home a lead of 529 runs at stumps on Day 2, having declared a few overs before end of play, Gavaskar said the hosts are now well-positioned to grab the initiative in the Indore Test.
"Kohli and Rahane have batted New Zealand out of the park. It will be impossible for New Zealand to win this Test, unless they can come up with a miracle. Of course, they can still save the game. It's still a good wicket to bat on," he added.
The Kiwis were 28/0 when play ended on the second day, with openers Tom Latham and Martin Guptill still at the crease.
