Live Score - Australia vs England
Australia have qualified for the final here and so the final game of this league stage will mostly end up as a knock out between England and India, if at all India do beat Australia in the next game after today. Do join us for that game, on 26th January, a special day for both teams. India will be celebrating their Republic Day while Australia will celebrate Australia Day. Let's see which team can make it their day. Until then, it's goodbye and take care!
STEVEN SMITH IS ADJUDGED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He starts off saying that it is nice to get few more runs. Credits the bowlers for bowling well to keep the runs down. Credits Starc and Faulkner for bowling well at the death. Confesses that they did not quite start well. Adds that he is not going to forget this summer. Credits the knock from Haddin as well. Mentions that playing on Australia Day is a special day for them and he can't wait to play at his home ground in Sydney.
Earlier today, England were inserted in to bat and when Bell hit his century mid-way through the innings, it looked like they will get to a score of over 350. But once Bell fell for 141, Root followed him with a fifty and the rest failed to back up their work. They lost 59/6 in the last ten and they will know they lost the game there.
AUSTRALIA ARE THROUGH TO THE FINALS OF THE TRI-SERIES. Australia started their chase well with both Finch and Marsh scoring boundaries at will. They got a 50-run stand before Ali castled Finch. Marsh and White departed in quick succession and that put the home side on the back foot. Smith though carried on his impressive form and led Australia forward with a superb ton. He never looked out of touch and anchored the chase brilliantly. He got good support from Maxwell and Haddin towards the end. Maxwell did not last long but Haddin played a good cameo to take the game away from England. They did make it a bit nervy in the end but all was well for Australia as Starc hit the winning runs.
VICTORY! On a length on off, Starc drives it through the covers in the gap for a single. There was a noise of bails been taken off but that does not matter for now, AUSTRALIA WIN BY 3 WICKETS!
So much blue around Starc. Keeper upto the stumps.
Fuller length on off, Smith clips it through mid-wicket for a single. SCORES LEVEL. 1 needed in 2 balls.
Mitchell Starc comes out to bat.
OUT! Bulls eye and Mosies departs! Fuller on middle, pushes it toward covers for a quick single. Taylor gets his throw on target and catches Smith short of the crease. 2 runs needed in 3 balls but Smith is on strike!
Another dot ball, Henriques pushes it to covers coming down the wicket.
