About Tarundeep Rai
Hailing from the Land of Monasteries, i.e. Sikkim, Tarundeep Rai is a cousin of former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia. Making his debut in 2003 at the Asian Archery Championship, Tarundeep is the most experienced member of the men's recurve team. In 2005, he was part of the team that won silver at the World Archery Championship in Madrid. Same year he was honoured with the Arjuna Award.
In 2009 and 2010, he was part of the team that clinched gold medals at the Asian Grand Prix. He is also India's first ever archer to win a silver medal at the Asian Games, a feat he achieved in Guangzhou in 2010. Last year, Tarundeep was one of the members of the men's recurve team that won silver at the Archery World Cup in Croatia.
