In the aftermath of one of the darkest periods in Indian wrestling off the ring, Vinesh Phogat will be India’s headline wrestler at this summer’s Olympic Games. One of India’s brightest medal prospects in Paris 2024, Vinesh Phogat will be entering the Olympics this time around hoping to better her result from her quarter-final exit in Tokyo. Vinesh is in impeccable rhythm, having dominated the Grand Prix of Spain. Since Tokyo, Vinesh won the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year accolade in 2022, after clinching gold at the Commonwealth Games. Cousin of former Commonwealth Games gold medallists Geeta and Babita Phogat, Vinesh sealed her spot in India’s Olympics quota at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament.
