South Africa's World Cup tragedy just got bitter on Friday as they yet again failed to progress after making the knockout stage.
A very strong contenders in this edition due to being a very balanced side, South Africa crashed out of the World Cup after suffering a 49-run defeat at the hands of New Zealand.
The defeat means that South Africa now have not won at the knockout stage of World Cup since 1992.
In the 1992 edition Down Under, South Africa lost to England by 19 in the semi-finals.
In the 1996 edition, held in the Indian sub-continent, they lost their quarter final by 19 runs against the West Indies.
In the next tournament in 1999, their semi-final against Australia ended as a tied match but since they had lost to Australia at group stage, they had to make way for them for the last-four stage.
They were very unlucky in 2003 as they were knocked out at group stage due to a defeat via Duckworth and Lewis method against Sri Lanka.
In the previous edition in the West Indies, the Proteas lost to eventual champions Australia in the semi-finals by seven wickets.
And on Friday they were in a very good position to beat New Zealand but wickets fell in heap once their main batsman Jacques Kallis got out.
They were chasing 222 to win but were all out for 172 at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.
