Indian captain M.S. Dhoni will soon don the Indian Army's olive greens after accepting an offer of honorary commission in the Territorial Army on Tuesday.
Army chief Gen. V.K. Singh made the offer when Dhoni and his team mate Suresh Raina met him at his residence, an army officer said.
The army chief complimented the Indian cricket team for its "remarkable performance" in the World Cup, in particular "the quality of leadership" displayed by Dhoni.
"The army chief offered an honorary commission to the Indian skipper in Territorial Army, which Dhoni readily accepted," the officer said. "The case for granting him honorary commission will now be processed."
Dhoni told Gen. Singh that he had always been keen about joining the army and has had many interaction with soldiers, apart from having a number of friends in the armed forces.
Dhoni and wife Sakshi on Monday met Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik, who offered him a sortie on the Indian Air Force's front-line Sukhoi fighter jet soon.
