Dhoni attends Territorial Army Raising Day

Newly-commissioned into the Territorial Army (TA) as an honorary lieutenant colonel, India's cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni attended his first official event when he joined army chief Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh at the TA's Raising Day celebrations here.

Newly-commissioned into the Territorial Army (TA) as an honorary lieutenant colonel, India's cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni attended his first official event when he joined army chief Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh at the TA's Raising Day celebrations here.

Dhoni had been conferred the rank last month for his achievements on the cricket field. He had captained India to World Cup win only in March.

The event, held Sunday in the capital, marked the completion of 62 years of TA, also called the citizen's army. The army chief was the chief guest on the occasion.

As part of the celebrations, the TA symphony orchestra and mass pipe bands will play at India Gate on Saturday and Sunday evening.
