MIW vs UPW, WPL 2024 Live Score Updates
We are back for the chase! The Umpires have taken their spot. The fielders are scattered to take their positions. Kiran Navgire will open alongside the skipper, Alyssa Healy. Natalie Sciver-Brunt will take the responsibility to start with the new ball.
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then! It was an amazing target set by the batters of Mumbai but they would have expected a little bit more from themselves. However, they tried their utmost to stretch the scoreline more but failed to do so. UP's bowling unit was able to gain control at the later half of the inning, But it's all up to their batter to chase the score down. Join us ina bit for the second essay.
On the other hand, UP's bowlers were having a bit of difficulty getting some early wickets. They got their first wicket in the 8th over, all thanks to Grace Harris who drew the first wicket for his team. But the fielding was horrendous for this side. There was a lot of fumbling and tumbling and also missed a few run-out opportunities. However, a miscommunication between their opposition helped this side to get another breakthrough. Soon after that event, the bowling unit got their tempo back in line and picked up wickets at regular intervals. They picked up 5 wickets in the latter half of the inning. At the end of the inning, Anjali Sarvani, Grace Harris, Sophie Ecclestone, Deepti Sharma, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad bagged one wicket each.
Grace Harris is up for a chat. She says that it could have been a lot worse when Hayley Matthews was starting to open up, but they finished well. Adds that she loved how the ball was coming out of her hand and is happy with her effort. Tells that it is hard to defend on this ground and she is glad with how they executed. Mentions that she also would have thrown at Natalie Sciver-Brunt's end as Matthews was giving them a few chances. Says that they will need to figure out how to field well under lights.
Mumbai's openers, Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia, had a rugged head start and were able to flow some boundaries. They both coordinated pretty well and had a partnership of 50 runs in 48 deliveries which eventually broke down with the dismissal of Yastika Bhatia. After gaining a couple of lifelines, Hayley Matthews cashed out pretty well smoking some boundaries and completing his half-century. Hayley Matthews and her skipper, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, had a sturdy partnership but because of a miscommunication, Natalie Sciver-Brunt had to lose her wicket. After that event, the run flow stopped for Mumbai and trails of wickets started falling for them. The lower middle order made sure to do their best and ended up putting a target of 162 runs on board to challenge the UP batters.
A huge appeal for LBW, and up goes the finger! It is two in two for Anjali Sarvani, but wait, Amanjot Kaur takes a review here. This is in the blockhole again, on middle, Amanjot Kaur tries to tuck it away but it seems like she misses and gets hit on the pads. However, the UltrEdge shows a slight spike and the on-field call is changed to Not Out. Mumbai finishes on 161/6!
Amanjot Kaur comes out to the middle now. However, we have to wait for a little bit as an intruder has made his way to the ground. We are good to continue now.
OUT! CLEANED UP! Anjali Sarvani gets her first wicket of the Women's T20 League 2024. She pitches it up again and on middle, shaping away a bit, Sajeevan Sajana backs away and tries to squeeze it away but the ball sneaks under her bat and rattles the stumps.
FOUR! Sajeevan Sajana finds the fence now. Anjali Sarvani serves this fuller and on middle, Sajeevan Sajana uses her feet and lofts it over the bowler's head for a boundary.
Back of a length and on middle, Issy Wong pulls it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
FOUR! A streaky one! Anjali Sarvani lands this on a good length and around off, Issy Wong throws her bat at it but gets an outside edge towards the thrid man fence for a boundary.
In the air...safe! This is full and on middle, Issy Wong lofts it high in the air, but due to the lack of timing it lands safely in front of deep mid-wicket. Two runa taken.
Who will walk up next?
OUT! TAKEN! Sophie Ecclestone gets her first wicket now! She bowls this slower through the air, full and on off, turns away, Pooja Vastrakar skips down the track to slog it away, but loses her shape and the ball goes flies off the top edge towards short third where Deepti Sharma runs forward and takes a good catch tumbling forward. Mumbai lose half their side now!
Floated, full and on off, Issy Wong lifts it towards long off for one more.
Flighted, full and on off, Pooja Vastrakar lofts it towards long off for one.
Another run out chance missed! This is quicker, full and on middle, Pooja Vastrakar heaves it wide of long on and turns back for the second run, the fielder throws it to the bowler's end where Sophie Ecclestone fails to collect on the bounce with Wong well short of her crease.
Flatter, full and on middle, Issy Wong drills it towards long on for a single.
BUZZERS! UP are having a horrid time in the field! This is tossed up, full and on middle, Pooja Vastrakar slogs it wide of deep mid-wicket and comes back for the second run, the fielder collects and fires in a throw at the middle of the pitch, it skids through, and two fielders converging leaves it for each other as it runs away to the fence for a boundary. Mumbai gets five runs from this ball as the batters did not cross when the ball was thrown from the deep.
