America's Serena Williams moved up one place to world number nine in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday, a day after winning her 40th career title in Charleston.

America's Serena Williams moved up one place to world number nine in the latest WTA rankings released on Monday, a day after winning her 40th career title in Charleston.

The 13-time Grand Slam winner overpowered Czech Lucie Safarova 6-0, 6-1 in the final in South Carolina.

Williams, 30, swaps places with Russian Vera Zvonareva who drops to tenth in the rankings still headed by Belarussian Victoria Azarenka.
