Former tennis player Somdev Devvarman was openly critical of the All India Tennis Association after young Sumit Nagal was axed from the Davis Cup squad following the allegations of indiscipline.

Somdev Devvarman had made it clear that he would be interested in getting into coaching assignments for the Indian contingent, and had initially said he would not say anything against the AITA since he then might not get those jobs.

Somdev's career was marred by a recurring shoulder injury in 2012. He recovered to stage a comeback but he had been missing from action without any specified reason for some time now.

The All India Tennis Association will on Thursday name India's Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams.

"In my opinion, Anand (Amritraj) is a great captain, looking at the results. It's hard for me to understand why we need a change. There is no reason to change the captain," Somdev Devvarman said

Both Davis Cup captain Anand Amritraj and coach Zeeshan Ali's contracts are up for review and the speculation is that All India Tennis Association may not renew the former's contract.
