Struggling American Andy Roddick slumped to his third defeat at the World Team Cup on Thursday when he lost 7-5, 7-6 (7/4) to Japan's Go Soeda, the world number 60.

Struggling American Andy Roddick slumped to his third defeat at the World Team Cup on Thursday when he lost 7-5, 7-6 (7/4) to Japan's Go Soeda, the world number 60.

Former world number one Roddick, now at 29 in the world, is making his season's bow on European clay courts ahead of the French Open after being sidelined for two months with a hip injury.

Despite Roddick's loss, the USA still won the match 2-1.
