Nicolas Almagro has been drawn to open holders' Spain's Davis Cup quarter-final clash against Austrian number one Jurgen Melzer on Friday.
Melzer, ranked 21, holds a positive 2-1 record against 12th-ranked Almagro with their last clash coming last year on clay in Monte Carlo.
World number five David Ferrer will then take on Andreas Haider-Maurer having won their only previous meeting in Bastad last year.
In Saturday's doubles, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez will play Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya.
Spain have won just one of their four previous meetings with the Austrians.
The winner next meets either France or the United States, who clash in Monte Carlo.
