Asian Games gold medalist Mahesh Mangaonkar defeated Valentino Bon Jovi Bong of Malaysia 3-1 to reach the men's semi-final in the second round of the JSW Indian Squash Challenger Circuit here on Friday.
Mangaonkar seemed to be suffering from a lack of motivation initially, but he pushed himself to stay in the game longer to eventually win the tie.
In a surprise result, Malaysia's Sanjay Singh defeated third seed Kristian Frost Olesen of Denmark 3-2 in a marathon 89-minute match.
Top seed Egypt's Zahed Mohamed cruised into the semi-finals with a 3-0 victory over Pakistan's Muhammad Asim Khan.
In the women's draw, a replay of the finals of the Jaipur round last week saw South Africa's Cheyna Tucker failing yet again against ace Egyptian Nouran El Torky who won 3-0.
In the other two women's matches of the day, Jui Kalgutkar of India was eliminated by Chloe Mesic of France in straight sets and Laura Pomportes of France defeated Sameer Anjum of Pakistan 3-0.
