Harinder Pal Sandhu Defeats Benjamin Coates in 1st round of Mumbai Challenger

Harinder Pal Sandhu Sandhu, who was part of the squash team that won the gold medal at Incheon, made it to the quarter-finals with the sterling performance while ace women's squash player Dipika Pallikal got a bye in the first round and entered the quarter-finals.

Asian gold medallist Harinder Pal Sandhu registered a thumping 11-1 11-5 11-5 win over English youngster Benjamin Coates on the first day of the main draw at the PSA USD-10,000 JSW Challenger Squash Circuit here.

The 25-year old was in complete control right from the start as he led 8-0 in the first game and conceded only one point in the first game.

Sandhu, who was part of the squash team that won the gold medal at Incheon, made it to the quarter-finals with the sterling performance while ace women's squash player Dipika Pallikal got a bye in the first round and entered the quarter-finals.

In another match, Ravi Dixit defeated Deepak Mishra in just 29 minutes.

Playing against his peer from Indian Squash Academy in Chennai, Dixit got the better of Mishra in three straight games (11-4,11-6,11-8).

Egypt's Shehab Essam Hosny defeated Pakistan's Ahsan Ayaz 3-1 (11-5, 9-11, 11-4, 11-2) in 49 minutes and Malaysia's Sanjay Singh took the match home in three straight games, 11-6, 11-2, 11-6, in just 25 minutes.

In the women's draw, Pakistan's Sammer Anjum fought back to defeat Urvashi Joshi in a five-game tie 6-11, 11-5, 11-6, 3-11, 11-9.

Nouran El Torky of Egypt edged past Pakistan's Sadia Gul with a straight 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 win, while Jaipur finalist Cheyna Tucker defeated Riddhi Sampat 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 in 20 minutes.

Third seed Birgit Coufal defeated Jui Kalgutkar 11-7, 11-4, 11-3.
