The Jharkhand government has announced cash awards for medal winners from the state in the 34th National Games, which concluded on Saturday.

The Jharkhand government has announced cash awards for medal winners from the state in the 34th National Games, which concluded on Saturday.
"I would like to announce that each gold medalist from Jharkhand will get Rs 7 lakh, silver medalist Rs 5 lakh and bronze medalist Rs 3 lakh," Chief Minister Arjun Munda announced at the closing ceremony of the National Games at the Mega Sports Complex here.
His announcement came in the wake of Jharkhand Olympic Association President R K Anand urging the government not only to emulate Punjab and Haryana, the two states which gave cash rewards for their medalists, but give more.
Munda also announced Rs two lakh, Rs one lakh and Rs 50,000 to coaches who trained gold, silver and bronze medalists respectively from the state.
Jharkhand finished 5th in the medal list bagging 33 gold, 26 silver and 37 bronze during the two week-long games.
