Controversy hit the National Games on Thursday when syringes and vials were allegedly found at the wrestling venue here, pointing to possible doping even as the Jharkhand Wrestling Association vehemently denied any wrestler using drug.
"We have deputed ten persons to keep a strong watch over any drug-related incident. I am also overseeing everything. How can only one news channel pick up a stray syringe in the toilet and that too even before the wrestlers reached the venue this morning," JWA president Bholanath Singh told PTI.
He was replying to a query as to whether syringes and vials were found in the toilets by the cleaning staff at the Ganpatrai Indoor Stadium at Mega Sports Complex.
"The venue had also hosted Taekwondo, gymnastics and other competitions before wrestling started yesterday. How can you say that the syringe found in the toilet was of wrestlers?" Singh asked.
"It is absolutely wrong to say that whatever stuff found in the toilets belonged to a wrestler," Singh said and added he would call a press conference to clarify things. "So far there is no doping incident," he asserted.
