Indian luger Shiva Keshavan on Friday came up with a personal best timing of 50.654 seconds to finish a creditable 15th in the Luge Nations Cup here, thereby qualifying for the World Cup finals.
The World Cup is scheduled to be held on Sunday.
In the run-up to the race, Keshavan had suffered a dangerous crash during the official training in which the runners of his sledge were completely shattered at over 120 kmph.
Fortunately, he escaped unhurt, but the accident resulted in him being stranded with no sledge to race with, a problem he had faced once before in his career. However, his competitors from Norway came to Keshavan's rescue, providing him with the necessary spare parts and the replacements.
To Keshavan's credit, he did not let the incident affect him and went on to post his personal best time in the competition.
"Never give in is my motto," said Keshavan after the race. "I have improved my performance a lot this year thanks to my coach Duncan Kennedy. I am sure the best is yet to come," he added.
