Former India captain Rohit Sharma remains one of the favourite seniors. His teammates and other Indian players have already talked a lot about his welcoming behaviour. While Rohit is usually a strict and serious personality on the field, his off-field presence is quite contrasting. This is one of the big reasons why even junior players feel comfortable reaching out to the veteran for any help regarding their game. India's U19 captain and Chennai Super Kings' star batter Ayush Mhatre has revealed a touching gesture from his idol Rohit.
"So I was about to go on the England tour, and I wanted to speak to him a bit. I messaged him. Then I said I wanted to meet him, so he called me directly. He called me from his side and said, 'Tell me what you want to say.' I told him that I am going on this tour and wanted to meet. He asked me, 'Where do you stay?' I said Virar. He said, 'Will you come from Virar to meet me?' I said yes, I can come anywhere to meet you, I just want to meet you," said Mhatre in a video posted by CSK on their website.
"He said, 'It's not like that, we can also talk on video.' I said no; I want to meet you in person and talk. Then he gave me his home address, and I went to his house the next day. I spoke to him for at least 2 hours. I mean, it was crazy that he gave me so much time; that's a big thing for me. My idol gave me time, so it was a dream day for me. I didn't even realise how time passed, 2 hours went by. It felt really good talking to him," he added.
Mhatre made his Indian Premier League debut in 2025 after an injury ruled out the CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad mid-season. He made a quick impact with the bat, scoring 240 runs in seven matches at an average of 34.29 and a strike rate of 188.98. As a result, Mhatre found a place in the CSK playing XI from the start of IPL 2026.
The Mhatre-led Indian team recently won the ICC Under 19 World Cup 2026 in February this year.
