The new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway on Friday with a grand opening ceremony at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, AR Rahman and Sonu Nigam were the top performers. The event got underway with Akshay and Tiger enthralling the audience to some dance numbers. They also took a lap of the stadium on bike. After their performance, AR Rahman and Sonu Nigam set the stage on fire. Â
Neeti Mohan, Mohit Chauhan were the other performers. Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff danced to hit numbers of their movies, which included songs like "Main Tera Hero", Jai Jai Shiv Shankar. Â

The opening ceremony will be followed by toss of the opening match of the tournament between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
CSK had dropped a bombshell on the eve of the IPL opener as the franchise announced that long-serving captain MS Dhoni has stepped down from his role.
The five-time champions announced that opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the franchise in IPL 2024.
Though the decision was expected by many, it still led to an outburst of emotions among fans.
The situation in the CSK dressing room wasn't any different, with eyes getting wet as soon as the 'Thala' revealed that he would be stepping down as skipper ahead of the start of the season.
