David Miller (66 off 29) slammed his sixth Indian Premier League fifty on Friday to lead Kings XI Punjab's charge against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In a match where in-form Glenn Maxwell (25 off 11) failed to last the distance, Miller's heroics ensured his team posted a daunting total of 198/8 which was easily defended by Punjab bowlers as Bangalore fell 32 runs short. In a match billed as one where power-hitters from both sides promised to lash out, Miller - reputed for his excellent strokeplay, dominated proceedings for most parts. Punjab got off to a brisk start after being asked to bat but Bangalore threatened to make in-roads after removing Virender Sehwag, Maxwell and George Bailey. It was then that Miller stepped up and took charge. (Read: Virat Kohli Laments RCB's Humiliating Loss to Punjab)
The South African who hit the fastest fifty by any Kings XI Punjab batsman (off 19 deliveries against Rajasthan Royals) last month, slapped fours and sixes at will. Although he mainly targeted the deep mid-wicket region, Miller was forceful on the off-side as well.
The highlight of the 24-year-old's innings though was when he slapped two consecutive sixes off young seamer Harshal Patel to complete a 23-ball half-century. He celebrated by dismissing the next ball for a four through square-leg.
Miller looked all set to score big as he continued to charge but it was pacer Varun Aaron who finally brought some relief to the Bangalore camp. An ordinary delivery - full toss outside off - was slammed by Miller only to be caught by a diving Yuzvendra Chahal. It was a splendid catch to end a splendid knock - one that was thoroughly appreciated by the sporting crowd in Bangalore.
